Quick start guide:
The refractometer works on the principle of light refraction to determine the concentration of liquids:
- Preparation: Before each use, it is essential to carefully clean and dry the prism and the hinged cover.
- Sample: Apply 1–2 drops of the sample to the prism using the pipette provided. Close the lid to ensure the liquid is evenly distributed.
- Measurement: Look through the eyepiece towards the light
The concentration/freezing point value is read off the appropriate optical scale.
- Calibration: The instrument must be calibrated before first use and at regular intervals using the supplied screwdriver and distilled water to ensure accuracy.
The instructions emphasise that the instrument must be kept clean, must not be subjected to impact, and must not be used in explosive atmospheres.
